DIABETIC CATARACT IN DOGS: COMPLICATIONS, TREATMENT, OUTCOMES

Diabetic cataracts are common in diabetic dogs and lead to blindness lens-induced uveitis, the complications of which may need remove eyeball. The objectives this study were provide a clinical ophthalmological characteristics cataract dogs, describe pre-, intra- postoperative phacoemulsification identify relationships between different parameters phacoemulsification, types complications, outcomes treatment for dogs. included 22 various breeds with diabetes mellitus complicated by bilateral mature cataract, all animals underwent complete examination, including biomicroscopy, ophthalmotonometry, examination chromatic pupillary reflexes, ultrasound eyeball, uni- or phacoemulsification. In course study, it was found that develops on average 3.4 ± 2.9 months from moment patient has mellitus, is characterized formation cracks anterior lens suture (77%), thickness 0.82 ±0.16 cm, -induced uveitis. Preoperative included: aqueous flare, posterior capsular rupture, fibrosis, subluxation. Intraoperative complications: release liquefied cortex into capsulorhexis, widespread (75%). most include POH (16.7%) corneal dystrophy (13.9%). Correlation analysis revealed relationship time surgery, operation preoperative particular, spontaneous rupture capsule, small thickness, intraoperative associated negative outcome terms vision.
